JR West Kinki area express trains have a network starting from Osaka and Kyoto to the Hokuriku, Sanin, and Kinan regions. In particular, the Hokuriku express trains have been famous since the days of the Japanese National Railways, with prestigious trains such as the "Thunderbird". The 683 series operates as the "Thunderbird" express on the Hokuriku Main Line. This model was designed as a successor to the 681 series and debuted in 2001 to replace some of the aging 485 series. After the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen in Kanazawa in 2015, the train was renovated and changed from the previous gray-based design to a black and blue-based design.

The 683 series 0 series uses a slotless motor, and is produced with a hookless coupler at the front and a safety belt hook at the front of the through-head car. This is a limited express train that has attracted attention since the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen in Tsuruga. Enjoy it with various trains in the Kansai area.
