Kato 8028-1 JNR Seki3000 (with Coal) - N Scale
2Cars Set
The Seki 3000 is a hopper car that was mainly used to transport coal from mines to ports in Hokkaido. Its distinctive appearance is marked by a yellow stripe on the side of the car indicating a speed limit of 65km/h and the words "No outside Hokkaido". A 2,400-ton coal train consisting of about 50 Seki 3000 cars, each loaded with 30 tons of coal in addition to a car weight of 14 tons, could be seen being pulled by a D51 or other locomotive from the coal mining areas known as "Yama" such as Yubari and Ashibetsu to the ports of Otaru and Muroran. In particular, the Muroran Main Line from Iwamizawa to Muroran via Oiwake and Tomakomai has a gentle downward slope and flat line, and the Hokkaido-type D51 single-locomotive pulled Japan's heaviest freight train, attracting great popularity among steam locomotive fans.
